The word corset top is often used interchangeably with the word corset. A corset top is a modern version of a corset, but it is not used as an undergarment; rather, it is worn as a shirt. Many specialty lingerie shops sell corset tops for women. A corset top does not function like a traditional corset. While they may have lace-up backs and boning like a corset, they do not significantly affect or shape the body of the wearer. They do need to be tightly fitted, either.
Unlike a corset, a corset top doesn't need to be fitted tightly either. Corset tops come in different sizes, from small, medium, large, up to plus size. On the other hand, a traditional corset needs to go through a corsetry tailor so the lady who wears it can have the exact size she needs for her body. With a corset top, ladies do not need to have their measurements taken, something many women would prefer. Since a corset top doesn't require a tailor, its size might not be the best fit for the wearer. The top might end up an exact fit for the breast area, but not for the waist, or the other way around. Additionally, a corset top might not be the best looking piece of clothing for ladies with extra love handles.
The only problem with a corset top is that its size may not fit well with the wearer\'s body measurements. It may fit well on the breast area but not on the waistline. Or, it may fit well on the waistline but the breast space will be too small. If the wearer\'s body isn\'t toned, cellulite or fat may bulge.
Many ladies like wearing a corset top because it maximizes their assets similar to a corset, but without the discomfort and confinement. Though they won't look good on everyone, corset tops are still manufactured for everybody to enjoy.
