Trade shows are a great place to show case new and innovative products. It is also a place to meet and mingle with colleagues that are in your industry. This provides a good place for networking as well as product sales However, numerous trade show exhibitors fail to get good results from trade shows. There are many reasons for this failure at trade shows.

Lack of preshow marketing is the number one cause to have a bad trade show. Attendees never enter the conventional hall or event hall not knowing or having any idea of what they are interested in. Preshow marketing helps to give a glimpse of what is waiting for them at your booth. It is basically an appetite wetter and it helps to entice the show attendee.

Improperly designed and built trade show displays: This can also be a major factor why your last trade show was not a success. Your booth has to convey as message, it should help to promote your product and services. It should not be the main topic, your product and service should.

Have promotional material handy. Never show up to any trade show without any promotional material. A business card will not do. Attendees want to see more on your product and services. You can have a DVD, brochure or leaflet. This should have not only information about your product, but it should have your contact information, phone number, website etc.

Reason four lack of a trained staff: You booth staff should be well groomed and product savvy. You should have a schedule clearly defining who is working the booth from what hour to what hour. They should be well versed to handle any sales questions that may come up.

Lack of promotional give-away item can also be a determining factor why your trade show was unsuccessful. Attendees love to receive fee items, especially if they can use it in some way or another. It should relate to your product and have your contact information on it. Mouse pads were hot items at computer shows years ago. Choose something that relates to your product and make it useful

Reason six lack of lead follow up: At the close of the show no one thing bothers me more that to have an exhibitor not follow up any leads that were obtained at the show. Why did you exhibit at the show? Hint to get leads which can eventually lead to sales.

I certainly can understand if attendance was down at the show, but yet if done correct your company should be able to leave that show or event with some sort of leads. Your product should have been seen. If Pepsi Cola enters the auto show and never gave away anything, had no promotional items, I am certain they would not be a splash at that event. Any trade show you enter you should be able to leave an impression about your company.
