Everyone has seen those ads proclaiming that you can make money on the Internet while working at home. Can it really be true, or is it just a scam? Well, it can be true, but you have to know what you are getting into and how to make it work for you.

The world of affiliate marketing provides some definite advantages for a certain kind of person looking for a particular sort of opportunity. The basic idea behind affiliate marketing is easy to understand and has been around forever. You help people sell their products and services, and they give you a cut of the profits.

For example, imagine that a new health food store opens in your neighborhood. The owner offers you a dealshe will give you 10% of every sale to every customer who comes in and says that they were referred by you. If you do a good job of spreading the word to people who want health food, you can make good money. These affiliate marketing programs you've seen on the Internet use the same principle, except your neighborhood is the entire world.

If you find the right product and a good strategy for bringing in sales, affiliate marketing can be a great source of income. And there are definite benefits to working as an affiliate marketer instead of at a usual job. But it isn't fast money, or easy money. You have to work as hard at affiliate marketing as you do at any other job, if you want to be successful.

One of the really nice advantages of being an affiliate marketer is that you are not tied to the product. Which means you don't have any initial expenses. If you start promoting a product and the product doesn't sell well, no worries, just switch to a better performing product and you're still in business.

And being your own boss in an affiliate marketing business has some quality of life advantages, too. You basically have unlimited freedom to work when you want, where you want, and as much as you want. You can do just a few hours a week, or put in a 50 hour week. It's all up to you, and where you put your priorities and your passion.

On the down side of affiliate marketing is that you have no fixed pay or fixed monthly income. Some months may be exciting, while some may cause doubts and either send you into a tail-spin or back to the drawing board. Still there are lots of independent folks that would happily trade some security for this kind of freedom.

You also have to be very self motivated and it helps to be organized. You control your work schedule, but that also means that no one is going to make you work when you need to, but don't want to. You will have to be resourceful, creative, and willing to keep at it when sales are slow, which will be especially true in the beginning. Stick with it though, and the rewards are well worth it.
