If you spend a lot of time on the computer, or make a living on it, you must keep it organized. I compare it to a clean car inside and out. It's work to keep it clean everyday, but knowing where your stuff is at, is a great feeling.

How many times have you gone to an internet account that require you to login? You end up at a website that you may not have been to in months, and now it wants your case sensitive user name and password. After a few login attempts, you get locked out from signing up for 24 hours.

You swear to yourself that you wrote it down somewhere and you proceed to look through a pile of papers near your computer. After about ten minutes of that you give up. You start opening drawers when you finally realize that information is long gone.

You have no choice now but to re-open a new account and go through the whole process again. You get an email confirmation telling you that your new account should be active within a day or two. You almost take a hammer to your computer and start smashing it into a million pieces.

I managed to repeat this mistake for years until I finally made a change for the better. It's hard to change when you do things a certain way forever. But, if you force yourself to be aware, you will never have this problem again.

What I did was create a word file and I named it "Logins". I keep this file on the desktop of my computer so I can always find it. I actually put it in the top right corner of my computer screen.

If I am feeling motivated I also email this file to myself, so I have a back up of it. Naturally you would want to do this once a month or so to keep everything updated. It has been a godsend.

What I do next is take the website URL and the login information and I paste it into my file. I have a pretty large file now, BUT I know where everything is. I put other pertinent information in there as well.

I am a creature of habit when it comes to these things now, so I try to have the same username and password as much as possible. They say you shouldn't do that, but most of the accounts I make aren't exactly an issue of national security.

And of course the sites I use most are usually the ones with strange login ID's. It becomes very difficult to remember all of them. That is why putting them all in one place that you can easily find is worth its weight in gold.

Nonetheless, if you start to do this, I can almost guarantee that your life will become easier on the computer. If you make your living on the computer like I do, then you might consider giving this method a shot.
