Marketing, coordination and planning, product or service, accounting, delivery methods and the business of business are the basic foundations for every home business. If you wish your business to be successful and profitable then these basics are an excellent place to begin.
Accounting-financial management. For any business to survive and thrive it must have its lifeblood- cash- well controlled. This is even more important for a home business where sources of additional capital may be limited. The bean counter may not be one of the more glamour roles you either do or outsource as a small business owner - but rest assured, it deserves its place among the essentials.
Marketing - otherwise you're winking in the dark. The old adage about a good product selling itself and people coming to your door looking for mousetraps are not really going to be much use to you in the real world. For your home business to be successful people have got to know about it and it is good marketing that makes this happen.
Product or Service - What have you got that they want? Some copywriters and so called advertising experts will try to tell you that the product or service doesn't matter. They say if you advertise well enough people will buy. Whilst there is some truth in this, it is not much of a basis for a successful home business. Much better to give your customers excellent value at a competitive price - your successful home business needs to offer products and services that your customers value.
Delivery Methods. Not just the product delivery but the whole process of making your home business satisfy your customers needs and wants. Does your home business have a seamless ordering process? Does your customer know what to expect and are they pleasantly surprised when your home business delivers more than those expectations?
The business of business. Even a home business should have an appropriate business structure. The legal and administrative requirements, while not of themselves helping your home business to thrive , may bring it undone if they are not attended to properly. There are a few other logistical factors that you also need to take care of in a successful home business. Even the simple things like having an office properly set up with all the equipment you need are worth review from time to time to ensure they are helping your home business and not hindering it.
Coordination and Planning. Imagine a jigsaw puzzle where each of the pieces were made separately and you had the job of trying to put them together afterwards. Some home businesses are constantly trying to adjust a bit here and there to fit circumstances as they arise. Some of this will still be necessary as things change. However you will be in a much better position to respond to changes if your home business operates as a coordinated whole most of the time.
The successful home business consists of a tight mix of accounting, marketing, product or service, delivery methods, the business of business and coordination and planning. With all these elements present in the right proportions your home business will thrive.
All the elements are necessary. It is true that a home business may operate for a while without one or two - but in the end proper attention to all of these elements is what it takes to achieve massive success in your home business.
