Tube deburring involves processes that remove burrs and other unwanted protrusions from tubes and pipes. It often includes tube deburring machines. Such machines also smooth off rugged and rough edges caused by most cutting procedures. Aside from deburring round and square tubes and pipes, they can also deburr slash cut, extrusions and mitered pipes and tubes.
Typically, such deburring machines include specific application of wire brushes. They are designed to remove burrs from tubes with oval, rectangular, or irregular shapes in a short period of time. Take note that every material has its own deburring brush. Such materials or parts include those that are iron, stainless steel, plastic, steel and aluminum.
The tube deburring process starts by squaring the ends of the pipes. The ends concentric to both the inner and outer edge of the pipe. A general rule is not to use a chamfer not more than half of the thickness the pipe. Using more will can possibly cause serious damage to the tube or pipe being deburred
There are two types of burrs. These are the cold-formed and hot-formed burrs. The cold-formed burrs are the easiest to handle and remove while hot-formed ones are typically more difficult to deburr. This is because hot-formed ones have more mass, meaning more time to deburr. Usually, hot-formed burrs wear down brushes over time.
Deburring machines are expensive and are impractical to own unless you have a business that requires the constant burring of pipes and tubes. To save money, it is better to avail of a deburring service from companies. Some companies that sell pipes and tubes offer cutting and deburring as a part of the deal. The cost of the service typically depends on the material to be deburred, the length, and the type of cut.
