Everywhere you look, it seems like the same hairstyle is staring right back at you. Are you looking for a fun, creative, new style? Try kinky twists! Kinky twists are great for the person with an active lifestyle because they are so easy to maintain. Kinky twists look similar to the popular micro braids, but they are actually twists.
Thinking about getting kinky twists? Here are some points to keep in mind:
1. Using a little bit of gel on the natural hair will keep any stray hairs from popping out of the twist.
2. It can be difficult to start the twist. You can begin by using a twist, or you can start by cornrowing. To make starting the twist easier, begin with a cornrow. Cornrow down at least once but no more than twice. This will help keep your kinky twist secure at the root.
3. It is very important to understand that kinky twists are made from two separate twists. First, twist the pieces of hair individually; then twist the twisted pieces around each other.
4. Staggering the parts-instead of laying them one on top of the other-will make the finished style appear fuller.
5. Wrapping the hair at night with a silk scarf will keep the style intact while sleeping.
Unlike cornrows, kinky twists don't lay on the scalp; they flow freely, just like regular hair. You can use your natural hair for this style, or you can add synthetic hair. Either way, kinky twists should take around six to eight hours to complete. With proper care, they should last up to three months.
When you are finished with your kinky twists, the ends must be secured to make sure the twists don't unravel. They can be curled or straightened--using a container with boiling water--but make sure you use caution around the hot water. Using a large plastic container with a handle is especially helpful because you can better manage the large tub. For straight ends, just dip the hair in the boiling water and towel dry. For curly ends, take some small rods and roll the ends of the twists. Then, dip the rods in the boiling water and towel dry.
Kinky twists are favored by many people because of their funky style and easy-to-maintain regime. If you twists become dull, just add a little oil sheen spray for added shine. Don't forget to wrap your hair up with a silk scarf before going to sleep.
