All of us know the big name stocks by heart. You hear about them all the time on CNBC and The Wall Street Journal. We hear about them constantly. Companies like Exxon, Microsoft, Wal-Mart, are always going to grab the headlines when they report earnings.
Companies like these are the ones that investors generally use to build a slow and steady portfolio. It's the safe way to go and there is nothing wrong with that.
But does anybody think that companies like these are the ones that a trader is going to hit it big with.
You think people treat Microsoft like some kind hidden gem? Of course not! They know that the value is already built in the market. There is definitely a ceiling on potential growth.
Now, if somebody had the foresight to buy Microsoft when the majority of the public didn't even know that company even existed, then that's a different story. But these are the kind of trades that the rich and successful stock market traders take. They see the potential and they pounce.
But the chances of you finding an opportunity like that watching the CNBC are slim to none. To be able that kind of potential in stock trading and investing, you need to think outside the box a little bit. Try your hand at penny stocks.
Most investors don't rally get too excited by the mention of penny stocks, but you never know where that next Microsoft might be hiding. Remember that every company had to start from somewhere. After all, it's not like Microsoft was born a billion dollar company.
Throughout the years there have been countless companies that have come from absolutely nowhere to be a major player in the stock market. Think about all those internet stocks. I know many of them flopped. But how many of them took off and never looked back. Almost every single one of them started off as a small time operation.
Stocks that are trading below a dollar at the present time, could be one of those companies that CNBC is talking about just a year later.
