Medicine has proved that weight gain is primarily caused by excess food consumption and the number of cases where weight is gained by a hormonal imbalance or thyroid malfunction is relatively low. Perhaps by learning a little more about food that helps you lose weight it will help with your weight problem.
Some foods are good at controling weight whilst others actively promote the burning of excess body fat. In fact there are a number of categories of food that can help maintain weight and allow you to actually enjoy your diet.
Some of these foods are commonly used and include the likes of pasta dishes, meals that contain brussels, cabbage and peas. Tomato sauce is actually better for you than tomatoes but if you add this to a portion of spaghetti and perhaps mix it with some veal which is also low in fat you have a highly nutritious low fat, great tasting meal. White fish has long been known to be healthy but it is also good for weight maintenance as well especially if you have this with vegetables that have been steamed and even mash potatoes have a low calorie count. You can even eat fresh sweet cheese providing it is low fat but yoghurt; porridge and even dark rice are healthy weight loss foods.
Fruit and vegetables added to the weight loss food list are numerous and highly diverse so besides grapefruit, oranges and lemons, that even make the basis for some diets, it is well known the role apples have in the stimulation of metabolism. Water melon, strawberries and kiwi pass all the tests of weight loss food as well. Grapes are often the fist fruit of choice when visiting a sick friend in hospital and there is good reason for this as they are very healthy but fruits to avoid owing to their higher calorie count are bananas and figs. Vegetables that can help with weight loss (as they are primarily water) but are very healthy are the likes of celery, cucumber, lettuce and tomatoes.
What should also be obvious is the omissions made here like sandwiches, fast food and sweet things like cakes are all going to cause problems and are in no way considered weight loss foods. However, there is some great low-fat source of energy you can take advantage of in special products such as low fat ice-cream and cookies, dark chocolate, low-fat mayonnaise and the list could go on. However, you will still need to check the ingredients on the packaging as some of these may not be the ideal foods to eat if you are on a certain diet.
