One of the thing that most women look forward too is to be a new mother. The joy of having a newborn baby in the arms of the mother is indescribable. However, having said that, new mothers also dread the after-effects of child birth. Weight gain is one of the most discussed topics for new mothers. The nine months of pregnancy pile up extra pounds of baby fats rather quickly because:

1. Old habits die hard: During pregnancy, you ate a lot of foods and thus gained weight! Now, in order to lose weight, it is inevitable that you reduce your food intake. However, it is easier said than done!

2. The baby being a new addition to the family will be the new focus of the new mother life. Her attention will be diverted away from herself leaving her not much time to plan and do things for herself like losing weight.

3. Babies during infancy are very demanding for the mother's attention. This often results in the mother not having enough sleep as the baby will keep waking her up. This can cause any mother to feel constantly hungry and ultimately more weight gained.

4. Stress: The post-natal period is one of the most stressful periods in a new mom's life. Excessive stress can result in quick weight again!

Although all these seems to be overwhelming odds for a mother to lose weight successfully. However if we looks at things objectively, its not hard to lose weight. As long as we can get rid of the excess calories and also have good sleep, you are on your way to losing weight. Below, are two ways that will help:

1. By exercising & workouts. Being a busy mother does not mean that we cannot spare even half an hour to workout during our daily routine. For example while at the office, you can use the lunch break to do some exercising. There are actually many ways that you can fit the time around a 30 minutes workout schedule daily. All you have to do is to organize and made a little adjustment towards your daily routine and maximize your time. For example, while doing the laundry, the time in between each wash cycle need not be wasted.

2. Reduce food intake: As moms, we are often in the habit of constantly preparing foods for children and then eating with them or bite on their leftovers. All these things can contribute to weight gain. The important thing is to break this habit, and then follow a suitable diet plan which you can follow! No one diet can work for everyone, so choose carefully. If necessary, take a second opinion from your doctor.

However if you are breastfeeding then you shouldn't diet. Breastfeeding itself can help you lose a great deal of fat! Many young women lose baby fat this way, and they don't even realize it!

So for new mothers, if you think that to lose weight is impossible, think twice.
