When your romance fails it seems the first thing we run to is a gallon of ice cream with whipped cream, chocolate sauce, and sprinkles too boot. Food becomes our comfort when love fails us.
All those that bring you such joy become the only thing that can ease your pain; food becomes your saving grace.
This is generally a normal part of the healing process; turning to food, but it most definitely isn't the best way to deal with your pain. While you are comforting yourself with all that food, you're also gaining weight, which also lead to more problems.
A better alternative to food as comfort would be to call your best friend and cry on her shoulder. Let her help you work through your relationship problems which will keep your mind off of wanting to indulge in bad food choices. This will also give you a little more self esteem to see a more positive outlook on the situation besides from your own eyes.
Get out of the house; don't make yourself a recluse to the world. Do something that gives you joy, like shopping or going to a movie; anything to get your mind off your problems. Get your hair done or a manicure to boost you self image.
There are many alternatives to food to keeping yourself busy such as going back to school, do crafts, join a support group; find a new purpose in your life. You have to get your mind set on what you want in your life and then go out and get it.
If you must indulge in food make healthy choices. Throw away the bad stuff and replace it with the good stuff. Vegetables and fruit are the best, and if you must have something sweet, there are lots of low fat and low calorie items you can choose from that will ease that sweet tooth.
Everyone knows what it's like to lament over a lost relationship or a bad marriage. Using an abundance of food to cope with this heartache may be an effective short-term fix, but it won't satisfy your feelings (or your health) in the long-term.
