Genital herpes is an easily acquired, highly infectious disease. It could infect men and women alike and is generally caused by strain of herpes simplex virus. It can remain in an inactive state so that it can cause a recurring infection.

The human body is the only virus producer. This type of virus is transmitted through intimate contact with an infected individual. In most cases, the sexual contact with an infected person is what leads to the contraction of the virus.

This type of herpes is highly contagious and is prevalent worldwide, mainly because of the ease of its transference. Besides, as mentioned earlier, people who are infected are not even aware that they have the disease since it does not show any sign or symptoms.

Given that the infection is commonly transmitted through sexual encounters, then discretion should be practiced before getting embroiled in a relationship that will eventually lead to sex.

Genital herpes causes blisters, which are basically open sores in the genital areas of both women and men. The result of the treatment is not curing the infection, but controlling it. According to the recent studies, more than one million people get infected with this awful virus every year.

Those statistics should scare us, because the speed of the spread is high. The rates of infection are high generally among the less educated people, poor people as well as among the individuals using drugs. Also people who have many sexual partners along their lives are exposed to a high genital herpes contamination risk.

In general, the infection does not produce any symptoms and ironically, the infected person does not even feel any symptoms. The infection is also transferable by kissing. Another way of transmitting genital herpes is by sexual contact, wherein the sores will appear to be similar to the sores produced in the genital area. Although such cases are rare, it can happen.

Bear in mind that if there is a skin to skin contact of infected and healthy person contamination is always a great possibility.

A great number of people are carriers of the virus and yet are not aware of it, thus causing its rapid spread. Sometimes, when symptoms appear, the infected person just ignores the pain until it heals by itself. On the contrary, the infected person, instead of ignoring the symptoms should take immediate steps to go for treatment to contain the infection and practice safe, protected sex. It will be prudent to be always observant of the people around you. What you know about people you are dealing with, at least in the physical aspect, could save you from an incurable disease such as genital herpes.
