So you've identified that you or someone you love needs help. So what then are the options are far as alcoholism addiction treatment and treatment for drug addiction?
I believe that rehab or a professional inpatient treatment program should always be your first choice - where you will spend typically 3-6 weeks in treatment getting clean and sober (length of stay can vary depending where you go)
Why would rehab or an inpatient program be my first choice? Because it not only helps you detox - but with its intensive therapy and counselling will help you deal with a lot of the emotional baggage that causes you to drink and take drugs.
To get the level of intensive treatment and care you need - is so much harder without going to a rehab or inpatient treatment program. How you stay clean/sober successfully after treatment is even more important - so a good rehab will also prepare you for that while you're there.
Many people automatically think treatment or rehab is going to be unaffordable. Many rehabs are government subsidised so whatever your financial position - do your research - because it doesn't mean it will be impossible for you to go.
Apart from rehab (which I would always recommend first) - what other treatment options are there? There are addiction and alcoholism self-help treatments where you would essentially need to spend a lot of time working on your emotional, spiritual and mental self - which no doubt has the ability to effect great change. I don't have time for specifics now (try my website for that) - but I still think you should try a treatment program like rehab first because of the professional help you will be receiving.
Another option to consider is the alternative route - alternative alcoholism treatment and addiction approaches increasingly have a role to play. I am all in favour of alternative alcoholism treatments etc. - however I do still believe they should be used together with a more 'traditional' approach like going to rehab - because you just can't find the specialist care you'll get there anywhere else.
Therefore when considering treatments for drug addiction or alcoholism addiction treatment options - make getting into a treatment center/rehab your priority. Things like alternative alcoholism treatment and addiction/alcoholism self-help methods can play a massive part - but going to rehab will just give you that head start, and so make recovery that much easier.
