With all of the health information available don't you find it interesting that you can't seem to find a way to stay consistently healthy and fit? The explanation can be as simple as knowing that most of us don't have a working knowledge of how the body works. With the application of this health information we would find it easier to remain fit and healthy.
Studies Indicate
Research would seem to indicate that health illiteracy is rampant in the majority of the American population. This would include nutrition, medicine and other healthcare related information. The research would suggest that either they are unable to effectively understand the information they have access to or they don't have enough health information to consistently maintain their fitness and health. One of the findings of research is that a large percentage of illness is due to the effects of insufficient management of beliefs, emotions, attitude, food, stress and environment.
Simply not engaging in these harmful behavior patterns would go a long way towards improving general health amongst the populace, but of course many are unaware of what habits are healthy versus which are unhealthy. In the absence of information being readily available to the public in a way that they can understand, this is likely to continue. So what conclusion can we draw from this premise? Simply, there needs to be more health information out there.
World Wide Web Research
So are Americans even trying to get better health information? It is unquestionably out there to be had. There are thousands upon thousands of web sites focusing on various aspects of the topic of health - and given that over half of U.S. households have internet access, most Americans already have a wealth of health and anatomy information literally at their fingertips.
Some of these websites even provide animated sequences that illustrate the human anatomy and it's functioning. This makes it a lot easier to grasp the information and is more interesting then other more basic ways of presenting the information. If you think about it since these are some of the same health information vehicles that medical students use then shouldn't we be doing the same? Having access to animations that graphically illustrate how different systems of the body work will of course lead to a better grasp of the systems involved and allow one to modify the associated behavior. This will lead to more consistent health and fitness.
For instance, let us take just one part of the body: the endocrine system. This system produces hormones which are integral to a vast number of processes within the human body; almost no organ or system in the body is unaffected by the workings of the endocrine system.
In Summary
Gaining and keeping one's health is not that difficult of a matter. However, a basis of knowledge is required before one begins to try to achieve better health. You must understand how your body works, which will give you a grounding on what habits are good versus unhealthy for you, as well as when to engage in certain behaviors which can affect your health for good or for ill. An understanding of human anatomy and the inner workings of the body is essential, as is education on how to implement this information in the cause of achieving good health. The best way to be healthy is not curing disease, but not to become sick in the first place.
