Schwinn's line of equipment includes elliptical trainers, stationary exercise bicycles, indoor cycling, the 'Airdyne' line, treadmills, home gyms, and much more. It also sponsors (and has interests in) almost every category of bicycle competition, from trial riding to racing and stunt riding.

The Schwinn company started in over one hundred years ago in 1895, when Ignaz Schwinn and Adolph Arnold incorporated the equipment manufacturer then named "Arnold, Schwinn adn Company" in Chicago. Thirteen years later Schwinn bought his partner's share in the interest and became its sole owner. Billing itself as an American icon, Schwinn fitness and sporting equipment now represents a leading brand of recreational products, bicycles, and commercial and home fitness equipment.

Schwinn elliptical machines are one of the leaders in the industry and have several models available to purchase. The 418 and 438 are two of the models from the Schwinn brand that are popular and very affordable. Both of these elliptical machines can be bought for under $1000 and are pretty similar in comparison. The Schwinn 438 trainer though does include more features for the couple of hundred dollars that you will need to pay, such as a wireless heart rate control.

Like most equipment in the fitness industry there's both low-quality and high-quality products that are available. Generally, you get what you pay for, so if you're only spending a couple of hundred dollars on an elliptical machine, don't expect the greatest features and durability. These machines should have a smooth elliptical motion, so it's a good idea to read consumer reviews, ratings, and comparisons before making a purchase.

Schwinn 431 Elliptical Trainer is as well a very strong machine. The quality of the machine is great, very smooth, great electronics, and a great workout. This machine takes about 3 hours to assemble, due to many moving parts and bolts. But it is all worth the price and the way this machine works. Comparing to other models this machine has a more compact design and has and attached fan to help you cool while exercising. This machine is so quite that you can watch a TV with volume at the normal level and still have no sound interference. The machine is solid and well made. It would be no problem for a person who weighs 250lb to use it. Well worth the price.
