In this country, receding gum are very common and affect over three quarters of the population every year. There are really much more than 50 ways to get your gums in distress and ill health, but many of the ways are uncommon. Many of the basic causes of gum bleeding are prevented by good oral health practices such as brushing, flossing and regular dentist visits. There are times when the bleeding indicates far more serious causes.

Sometimes the cause of receding gum is very common and known as gingivitis. This is a mild form of gum disease that inflames the gum areas surrounding the teeth. The gums swell and turn red from irritation. Gingivitis is usually just a result of leaving too much plaque in the mouth by bad brushing and flossing. The plaque gives bacteria a great medium for growth and they do grow to the irritation of the gums.

The likely cause is just irritated gums that have swelled a little and are leaking a small amount of blood when pressed or pulled.

The most common problem associated with receding gum is gingivitis. Gingivitis happens if you don't clean your teeth and gums well or for some other reason the bacteria in your mouth have a growing party between your teeth and gums. The bacteria multiply rapidly and soon start to irritate the gums causing the swelling and often redness in color.

While a lack of blood clotting vitamin K can be bad for the body, sometimes blood clots will threaten major organs and blood thinners are required for treatment. receding gum can result from slight miscalculations on the dosage of the drugs and should be reported immediately if you know you are on blood thinners.

Another major disease that causes receding gum is form of cancer known as leukemia. Leukemia affects the blood and usually the white blood cells associated with the immune system. This allows more infections and bacteria to grow in the mouth and affect the gums.

Modern drugs can cause receding gum if the dosage and usage is not correct. The use of anticoagulants is more common when people age to prevent blood clots. The blood thinning action of the drugs is essential for preventing clots, but if the dosage is a little off, the gums may start bleeding significantly as a result. Consult your doctor if this occurs frequently.
