Most hobbies have clubs or groups where people sharing an interest in the activity can get together. Humans naturally like to share skills and knowledge to gain further insight into our interests. Everyone involved in these clubs can benefit from the new ideas and skills they learn. No more reinventing the wheel for every model railroader!

Model railroading is no different in this aspect. With hundred or possibly even thousands of clubs across the world model railroading is far from an obscure or fringe group of hobbyists.

Clubs like the Lionel Collectors Club of America (the LCCA) offer many resources and ways for their members to share their love of the hobby. Something that would be much more complicated without the club serving as a point to get together.

There are also various types of model railroading clubs - far more than just the various scales. A link at Railserve.com, for example, lists well over 150 clubs around the world - each with a specific focus or specialty.

They all have something in common, however - a love of model railroading and the desire to improve the overall state of the hobby by sharing their knowledge and skills with one another. If you're interested in model railroading, you'll see lots of benefits from joining a club.

Rome after all was not built in a day, nor by one engineer!

No matter what your interest - prototyping real-world scenes, collecting antique train equipment or just a general interest in all aspects of the hobby, you'll be able to find a club that focuses on the same thing.

Taking the time to join a club and connect with other members is well worth the effort. There's nothing wrong with working by yourself, by you'll get a lot more satisfaction by working with others who you can share your skills and knowledge with - while benefiting from theirs at the same time.
