A home is all built at the same time which leads one to believe it should all last the same number of years. Actually, this is a false assumption. Your roof, for instance, will rarely last as long as the rest of the home.
Sooner or later, your roof is going to need work. It might be because it is damaged in a storm or it might simply run through the expected life span for the materials used. Whatever the reason, you are going to need to find a roofer to work on it.
The roof is vital to any home. Given this, do you think using unlicensed people to work on it is a good idea? Probably not, but people use handymen all the time and really come to regret it.
It rains one day during the summer. You notice you have a leak in the roof in one corner of the home. You think about getting it fixed, but blow it off. Hey, it is summer! Now fall is upon you and the fix is needed.
You ask around and are introduced to a person who says he can fix it. You pay a few bucks, the work is done and all is well. Or is it? During the first rain storm, the leak not only reappears, it grows substantially.
At this point, you really only have one option. You need to find a real roofer who understands what is going on and how to fix it. Do you think he is going to want a premium for standing on your roof in the rain? Yep, it is going to cost you.
If your roof is seriously damaged, you are really going to be up the river without a paddle. The guy who fixed it the first time cannot be trusted. Since there is now water in the roof, you are going to need a bigger, more expensive repair to avoid mold problems.
All of this brings up the central issue of this article. Your roof is one of the most important aspects of your home. It keeps the elements out. When you need work done on the roof, do not use anyone other than a licensed roofer.
A licensed roofer comes with a certain level of comfort. In a majority of states, they are required to be insured. The better ones will also guarantee their work in writing and only use materials that come with long warranties as well.
Put another way, you have someone you can count on. If a problem does arise, you can find them and they will take care of the problem. When it is pouring rain and your roof is leaking, could there be anything better?
