Some people have trouble going from the hectic pace of working to the idyllic lifestyle of retirement. Some people miss recognition from work, even, and feel they don't contribute to society anymore. But as with all things, it's all how you look at it and what you do with it.

Retirement is the opportunity to enjoy your life, relax and do the things you wished you had time for, when you were working. Now you can get off the treadmill and take leisurely walks instead.

Look back on all those years of stress at work when you could only dream of tossing it all and go have fun at the beach. Now you can reap the rewards of all that hard work.

It's normal to feel a bit anxious after retirement. You no longer have a sense of where you are supposed to be and what you are supposed to be doing. But with a little thought and practice, you'll soon get used to retirement and find it quite enjoyable!

It's a big change to move from working to retirement. All of a sudden, you have more control over your time. And while that change is welcome, it can be a little scary, too. In order to enjoy your time, there are several ideas you may want to consider.

1. Try something you've always wanted to do. Now you have the time to learn how to be an artist, or a golfer, or a chef, or a jewelry designer.

2. Work on the skills you already possess. If you are a talented singer, dancer, or whatever, retirement allows you the time and freedom to do what you love.

3. If you always wanted to volunteer at a church, hospital or animal shelter, but never had the time to do it, retirement opens up a whole new world of possibilities. Volunteering gives you the chance to help others and be a vital part of your community.

4. Where is that guy you went to high school with, who was so much to hang around with? What happened to your buddies at your first job? Now is the time to find out--and with the internet this is not hard to do. You can spend time renewing old acquaintances, reliving the fun you had, and making some new memories to cherish.

5. Take all of those trips you never had time for when you were working. Now that you are "a senior," you can take advantage of all those discounts, too.
