Online advice forums are becoming increasingly more popular in today's society. Why is this? It's simply really. These sites let us feel normal. They let us relate. Whether you have just started a new job, just found out you're having a baby, or are arguing with your romantic partner- with the click of a button you're able to find someone that has been in the same situation. They may even be going through the same experience at the exact same time! Take this a step further, and you get anonymous advice sites. The following points list some of the benefits anonymous advice sites have over traditional online forums. 1. First, not all problems, and thus subsequent questions, are created equal. Certain inquiries may be embarrassing in nature, and anonymity allows complete freedom in asking what you need to ask. 2. Next, unlike friends and family, a stranger will not cater their responses to you. They have no personal connection with you, therefore offering the most unbiased advice. This honesty is further compounded with the large amount of users participating in an anonymous online forum. The person asking the question can weigh in on advice from not just one, but from many people. If the majority of an online population disagrees with you, maybe it's time to reevaluate your stance. 3.Lastly, these sites do not replace the bonds between friends and family. Rather in some cases they can even protect those bonds. Getting personal advice from strangers can spare your loved ones unnecessary worry and concern. Anonymous advice sites are often used as "trial sites" for arguments with loved ones as well. Do strangers think you're in the right? Do they think you're blowing your situation out of proportion? Consulting with others before confrontation can often allow a more balanced view of the picture. In closing, advice sites are a wonderful tool. They are however, in no way meant to be a replacement for therapy. Those afflicted with serious medical conditions should seek proper treatment.
