The Ants' Four-Part Philosophy

Jim Rohn has a very powerful philosophy that he calls the ant philosophy. He says that ants have a four-part philosophy.

1. Ants don't quit...ever.

An ant doesn't worry about whether or not a task can be done or not. He just does it. He doesn't wonder if it's too tough. He just does it, until it's complete.

When you block their ant line, they find a way around. They don't stop looking for a way around an obstacle, until they find it.

Sometimes things are going great in life. We have a strong lock on the right path in our lives, when something comes up. Something changes. We can't find the line. When this happens, don't give up. Look around. The trails can't be far. Don't quit until you find it.

2. During the summer, ants think winter.

Why do they think winter? Because during the winter, they won't be able to gather food. The summer's all the time they have. Sometimes we spend too much time enjoying the summer that we don't prepare for the inevitable winter. I'm not saying that you shouldn't enjoy the summer. You should. But always remember, winter is coming.

Ants always remember that winter's coming. A day doesn't go by that they're not preparing. Do you prepare a little everyday?

3. During the winter, ants think summer.

They're no different than you or me. They like to be outside. They get cabin fever. But ants know that winter never lasts forever. At least it hasn't yet.

The same is true in our lives. Our lows will pass. We'll feel the warm on our faces again. The plenty will come again. Even the Ice Age eventually ended.

4. Ants think, "Gather all we can now." Jim Rohn calls this the all-they-possibly-can philosophy.

Summer always follows spring and winter, right? Always. We're not surprised when the leaves change colors at the end of summer. This is the natural order of things.

But we never know the exact day that a particular season will start on. We never know when the snow will start falling. The time to prepare is now.

The Ant Philosophy summarized:

1. Keep at it. Don't give up. Don't quit.

2. Winter is coming. Prepare during the summer.

3. Summer is coming. Look forward to it.

4. Gather all-you-possibly-can.
