So you and your family have decided that it is time to get a new pet and the pet you have decided on is a Chihuahua. Before you even start to talk to any Chihuahua breeders you will want to do some homework so you make sure that you do not get a fake breeder or a breeder that is not reputable. You want to be certain you are doing business with a reputable breeder because your dog's health depends on it.
The Internet is filled with the many breeder registries that any good breeder will want to be a part of to show that they conform to healthy standards of breeding dogs. The main registry is the National Kennel Club but they are only one of many registries around. Check and see if the breeder you are considering is a member of any of the national registries before you talk to them personally.
When you invest in a Chihuahua from a Chihuahua breeder you are not just getting a dog but you are also employing the expertise of your breeder for many years to come. If you are not comfortable with a breeder's communication skills when you are searching for a dog then you probably do not want to continue to deal with that breeder because their communication will probably disappear after the sale and that would be bad.
Any good breeder is going to offer you detailed care instructions when you purchase your new pup and probably send you home with a sample of their food so you know what it is you need to feed the dog. If your breeder indicates that they are not in the habit of offering care instructions or food samples then the breeder you are talking to may not be the breeder for you.
When a Chihuahua breeder gains a positive reputation and keeps their breeder registry listing in good standing they are approached by insurance companies to offer new owners limited free pet insurance policies.
Your breeder gets these policies for free from insurance companies if they are a good and reputable breeder so if the breeder you are dealing with fails to mention, or offer, any free pet insurance policies then you may want to question your choice of breeder.
Buying a Chihuahua is something you and your family look forward when you finally make that decision to invest in a new pet. Choosing the wrong breeder can make the experience, and your new dog's life, a very bad one so take your time and ask a lot of questions.
A good breeder expects you to ask questions and do your homework so by all means do what is expected of you before you invest in your dog.
