This is an outline of dog foods, based on expense, for some varieties said to be acceptable for dogs with food allergies.

On the less expensive side, Chicken Soup dog offers more fruit and vegetable in their recipe and includes potatoes, carrots, peas, apples, tomatoes, blueberries, cranberries and spinach.

Avoderm is made with avocados to promote healthy, glowing, beautiful skin and coat. They also make vegetarian recipes.

Eagle Pack offers a Holistic selection that costs a little bit more, but it is comprised of antioxidants, probiotics, prebiotics, and protein rich recipes. There are no hormones in the chicken and the fruit and vegetables are fit for human consumption.

High protein, whole grains, veggies and fruit constitute the ingredients of the blue dog food or the Blue Buffalo dog food, which is based on what humans eat. Dogs are less likely to be allergic since these foods contain unusual ingredients such as sweet potato and brown rice, and dogs have not developed sensitivities to these foods yet. These food varieties are available in the market as dry and canned; however some of their products were recalled from the market in 2007.

In the same way, Pinnacle's Canine Holistic Allergen-Free Formulas for dogs use unusual foods in recipes such as trout and oats to which dogs are less likely to be intolerant. Nature Recipe dog food is beef, wheat and corn free as these are common allergy-promoting foodstuffs. Inova dog food manufacturers make EVO, a high protein diet with veggies and raw fruit.

You will not find by-products such as wheat, corn, artificial flavors or colors, or chemical preservatives in Life's Abundance dog food. Key ingredients are chicken meal, fish meal, carrots, apples, spinach, celery, alfalfa meal, ground brown rice, antioxidants, live probiotics and chelated minerals.

For the luxury alternative, Abady dog food company make meals which contain less of these problem foods for your dog, such as soybeans or beet pulp. They formulate dry, canned and raw foods with a sizable cost.

IVD dog food (now Royal Canin) make breed specific recipes and special need recipes like Royal Canin Veterinary Diet Canine Hypoallergenic HP 19 which is a lactose and wheat gluten free recipe.

Keep in mind that these recipes may only be a temporary solution. When you suspect that your dog is suffering from allergies, it is better that you evaluate the food that is creating problem and arrange to feed appropriately.

If your dog is displaying symptoms of food allergies, schedule a visit with your vet as soon as possible.
