Of all the breeds of dog that one can choose from, one of the favored is the Labrador. They are one of the most popular breeds of dog not only in North America but all around the world and it is really no wonder why. They are friendly, energetic and beautiful dogs. They are even great with children and make a wonderful family pet.

Many people think that they can just head out to the local pet store to get a Labrador puppy, but really you should be spending some time finding legitimate and reputable Labrador breeders. This is the only way to ensure that you will be getting a healthy and well-behaved puppy, which is especially important if you want a purebred Labrador that you will be paying hundreds of dollars for. There are mass breeders out there who are usually not educated on and do not care about the dogs, and who should be avoided at all costs. You want a breeder who is familiar with the breed and who provides the dogs with the love and care that they need to strive.

When you are on the hunt for the best Labrador breeders, there is nothing more important than asking questions. You should ask what the lineage of the puppies is, as a responsible and reputable breeder will be able to tell you lineage from generations back, as well as give you a family tree of the puppy.

You should also inquire about seeing a signed veterinary health certificate for the puppy, as this will offer you valuable information including the various vaccinations that they have had to date.

The breeder should be able to provide AKC or CKC registration papers on the puppy, and prove to you that all health information on the puppy is proper and up to date. Keep in mind that if at any time the breeder is unsure or is unwilling or unable to answer any of your questions, you should probably not do business with them and scratch them off your list. A good breeder will be prepared for your questions and be happy to offer you the information and answers that you are looking for.

The time and effort that you put into the process of finding reputable Labrador breeders will be more than worth it at the end of it all, when you find a puppy that fits in perfectly with your life, and who is healthy and well-behaved. Choosing a puppy is a long-term commitment and not something that should be taken lightly.

Too many people these days skip out on this process altogether and end up going with pet shop puppies or backyard breeders. The problem with these casual breeders is that they are not professional, and they are not educated on what they are doing or on the breed that they are selling.

Because of this you can never really be sure what type of dog you are getting and what type of grief or problems they may end up causing you in the future.
