When you think of Brussels, you might not think of good food. Ah, what a mistake. Belgium has excellent food and Brussels leads the way. You should only stay for a few days or you will do serious damage to your waistline.

The people of Brussels do love to eat. The city has more than 1,800 restaurants. The foods that are highlighted include waffles, chocolate, fries and a variety of tasty beers.

You will discover waffles as you have never had them before. They are eaten as dessert not breakfast. Mussels that are served with fries. Numerous shops selling chocolates and pralines. Simply put, this city is going to damage to your waistline.

Brussels is sweet in ways you cannot imagine. In addition to dessert waffles, the city is famous for brewing the best cherry beer in the world. It is excellent and must be tried. You can almost watch your waistline expand.

After you have had your fill of food, you might be in the mood to work some of it off by going on a nice bicycle ride. Thankfully, there are bicycle rental shops all over town. Then again, you may just want to go to sleep after eating and that is okay as well.

Brussels is better if you try to go local. Skip the big chain hotels. Book a room in the many family inns in the city. They will treat you like family and show you where to go to see, hear and taste the real Brussels.

When you wake, you will find that this sleepy night time town is in full swing. Grab your walking shoes, explore the town, and start that gastronomical feast all over again. After all, who can ever have enough of chocolate, waffles, and beer?

Brussels often does not get much respect when top tourist destinations are mentioned in Europe. It should. The food is tremendous and the sites have much to offer. If you have a chance to go, do so.
