One of the biggest factors in a first date that determines one's appeal is confidence. Confidence is a human characteristic that some possess, but many would be better off with perfecting the trait in question. As many find out, however, this can be a tiresome task indeed.
Above all else, how one thinks about how they look or act is the biggest flaw in one's confidence. If you feel that you aren't good looking, have a poor personality, or just don't see yourself as a "good catch," your confidence is going to likewise suffer. In this case, it's best to either become comfortable with yourself, or fix what you see wrong to the best of your ability.
A good way to exert confidence in a relationship is to be three things: outgoing, talkative, and carefree. All three characteristics will give off the impression that you are confident- when in fact you might not be. Of course, being talkative and outgoing can be tough for someone new to the confidence game. If nothing else, one can always be carefree- just relax on your date, there are plenty of options should one date not work out!
A common trait that is misconstrued as confidence is arrogance. It is very important not to mix these two characteristics of personality, as arrogance can indeed give a very bad impression. Being confident is one thing- but being confident also means being refined and sophisticated. Arrogance usually shows the opposite gender that you are narcissistic or egotistical- and no one wants to date someone with these traits.
Another big confidence killer is one's living arrangements. It's common for one's house to have pets, which can cause foul odor. Others may live with their parents even after graduating college or highschool, which can be equally as embarrassing. Whatever the scenario, it's important to agree with the idea that if the date really is for you, they would understand your shortcomings without question.
Confidence also can be created by going on a date doing something that you have done before. All too often, the first date is a new experience for those who lack confidence. If you happen to go to a new restaurant and order something you don't like, it may give the wrong impression to your date- who may think you are too picky or unwilling to try new things.
Lastly, it is important to not take any failures as a sign that you lack confidence- not all relationships are determined by confidence. But as studies show, the opposite gender will be much more likely to be attracted to someone of their type if they do indeed exert confidence.
Above all else, always try to have fun on the first date, and any dates following should you leave a good impression. Take note that a failure isn't always a setback- but just another reason to keep dating to find the special person for you. Armed with your new confidence, the chase for the "one" may now be easier than you think.
