Your friends have decided to use the old-school way of meeting potential mates. They are fascinated with the notion of "arranged marriages" which is still a custom in the "old country". You will be the guinea pig, since you are the oldest of your buddies. They are concerned with your single status and have talked you into accepting some blind dates they have set up for you.

You've taken the plunge and are on your first blind date, the girls have set up for you. You are waiting at the door of a restaurant of his choice, for Jack, who you have been told, "has the cutest dimples anyone has ever seen on a guy". What they didn't tell you as the big guy comes walloping over is that he is 5'5" and weighs over 300 pounds. You a 5'8" and thin. As he walks over to you, you look down at him and smile.

Once you sit down with Jack, he begins telling you how this place has the best ribs in town, and ribs are his favorite food. You look over the menu hoping there's something on it for you to eat besides french fries.

You are so bored you begin thinking of how you could make as polite an exit as possible. Jack is a sweet guy and you two could be friends but you really don't see thing going much beyond friendship. He seems to be very interested in you though, and you are happy that at least guys still find you attractive.

Now imagine a date with someone you met through internet dating and have been chatting online with and exchanging emails with for quite some time.

With on-line dating, you don't need to be introduced. You have already been introduced via telephone conversations and emails. You already know this man and he knows you. You are sitting in an Italian restaurant enjoying a delightful meal because you both know that the other's favorite is Italian. The conversation flows easily as you discuss common interests.

You both know a lot about the other before you meet. You both enjoy beaches. You both love travel and children. Neither one of you is a couch potato, and you both have extroverted personalities. Your first physical meeting is a great success for both of you.

With blind dating your friends choose your date for you, thinking they know who you are looking for. With online dating you choose your potential friends yourself, based on pictures, emails and sometimes videos. Since time today is such a precious commodity, we need to be as efficient as we possibly can be, with it.
