What is infidelity? It is a breach of faith, particularly in a relationship between a man and woman. It is an act of cheating of a man or woman violating the mutually agreed-upon rules or boundaries of a relationship. If a man or woman has sexual intercourse with a person other than the lawful spouse, it is called infidelity.

What are the effects of infidelity on society? Infidelity has a lot of adverse effects on society. Infidelity often ends up with a divorce. A research study revealed that the cause for 90% of first time divorces was infidelity. Is it not alarming? Will it not have an effect on society?

While studies differ, some researchers say that as little as 20% of divorces are caused by infidelity, a much smaller figure. Still, other couples live on in unhappy relationships. A recent study showed that men were the primary causes of infidelity, but they were only 5% over women.

It is in society's best interest to figure out the effects it has on society as a whole. For certain, no good can come of it. Worse still is the effect it has on children, who suffer a lot of stress when their parents' marriage is in trouble.

If the couple decides to go for a divorce, the children are greatly affected psychologically. They develop a feeling of insecurity. They need both mother and father to live with them. Some couples hide infidelity from their children and continues to live together for the sake of their children.

If a couple opts for a divorce after infidelity, then each child has to live with a single parent. Therefore, the children will certainly miss the love of the other parent. It might cause certain ill effects on the child. A child may grow violent due to the big change and disturbance in life. Sometimes when their parents remarry, the children's life becomes miserable.

Many children end up seeking love in other places. Young girls and women tend to get into dysfunctional relationships with unworthy men, which causes more problems. Along the same lines, many times children get into drugs as a way to cope. Not to mention the negative effects a divorce can cause in school, which can adversely affect their futures.

Infidelity disturbs the foundations of a family and causing its members to be adversely affected; therefore, something as small as an affair can disturb society as a whole. The separation of family members leads to a disturbance in children's mental and emotional growth, and caters to a more criminalized society and weakens society's citizens. That is to say, in the long run, infidelity can irrevocably damage society and weaken the country.
