Although it may seem hard to believe, weddings are becoming more expensive each year; over 25 billion dollars is spent each year on weddings, with an average 20-25,000 spent on each. Just because a wedding is expensive does not mean it will be a success; deciding to have a cheap wedding does not mean it cannot be enjoyable for everyone. It just requires a little knowledge, imagination and clever ideas to reduce the huge amount that is spent; your special day may be more affordable than you think!

Budget Bridal Gown

Almost never considered are the costs associated with the hand made wedding dress; many brides sell their dress soon after they are married and this is a sensible way to reduce the cost. The huge cost of a new wedding dress cannot always be justified these days; many bridal shops carry a large number of previously owned dresses that can be hired or bought for considerably less than new.

The Wedding Reception

The largest single cost is that of the wedding reception but even here savings are possible; with an average of just under two hundred guests attending it is easy to see how you can reduce the financial burden for your cheap wedding. Reducing the number of people who attend, including distant relatives or friends you haven't been in contact with for years, will help enormously; you can even carry out some of the catering yourself and have a hot and cold buffet style meal instead of a four courses.

Other cost reductions can be made in where the wedding reception is held; it could take place in a friend's house or a local club where money could be saved on beverages if they are supplied directly.

Although many photographers are employed for the entire day, this isn't really necessary; the majority of guests are more than happy to take photos on behalf of the couple, and they will be 'natural' shots as well! If you really want to be 'avant guard', why pay for a photographer at all; these days most people know someone who is a keen, capable amateur photographer, and there is nothing wrong with asking them to take photos throughout the whole day.

Other areas where you can be assured of saving money is wedding invitations and other stationery; today's home computers and printers are able to provide near professional results. With the correct programs, all the work can be checked fully before it is printed out; this means that often costly errors and adjustments that are often required in the early stages of the work are not made.

Wedding Flowers

Cost cutting measures can also be found in the area of flowers and their arrangement; these can actually be purchased in large quantities from wholesalers or even from your own garden if you have the capacity. If possible, try and get a friend to make your wedding cake for you; cakes do not have to be the traditional fruit so try a sponge cake with a chocolate flavor filling for example.

The Wedding Limousine

As a last cost saving measure, ask a friends or relation who has a nice car to decorate it and use it instead of a limousine; I'll bet he or she would be more than happy.

It may be a cheap wedding but it can still be enjoyed by everyone that attends; they do not need to know it was arranged on a very tight budget!
