Religion has never been considered a great, or even polite, conversation starter. Views on the subject can really vary, but each person is equally as passionate about standing behind their beliefs. It's easy to see how discussion on the topic can instead turn into a nightmarish debate.

If we have so much to say, and we are so passionate, why can't we express ourselves? Can we go somewhere and open up? Can we learn from others?

People who want to discuss, are drawn to free advice sites. A stranger approached about religion on the street would bristle. The average person isn't prepared to discuss such personal topics. Finding people who want to talk, as opposed to forcing people, is the key here.

No one knows who you are on an anonymous advice site. If nobody knows who you are, then you don't have to censor yourself. These sites allow the freedom to let a person really express how they feel, and really understand how other people are feeling.

Lastly, forums offer a wide array of topics that can splinter into all sorts of new thoughts. Instead of talking about the topic you went there to post, you may end up discussing something you've never even considered before.
