It is quite possible that you have had several astral projection in your lifetime, however you would only remember them as dreams. It is not only possible but highly likely that some of your more realistic dreams actually you taking an astral journey, or having an out of body experience.

The best way to learn how to astral project is to keep a dream journal or diary. We cannot begin to understand dreams until we begin to remember them. One of the most effective in interesting ways to achieve this is to keep dream diary.

To begin you should buy a notebook or pad there'll be used solely for keeping your dreams recorded in, this should be kept with a pen by your bed at all times. By keeping it close at hand you can write down the recollections of your dreams even if you wake up in the middle of the night.

When you wake up, and before you start to rise, close your eyes for a few seconds and try to recapture some of the images. Most dreams are a series of images, and remembering one could trigger a sequence. If you cannot recall any images, try to remember how you are feeling as this too could trigger a fragment of a dream.

It is very important that you write in your dream diary first thing in the morning before you do anything else. Include all the detail you can remember, regardless of whether you think it is relevant, and even if it doesn't make sense. I also recommend that you write in the present tense as this makes the dreams seem more realistic. Begin by writing down the basic themes and your feelings during the dream, then you can add the specifics later.

The longer you keep the dream diary, the more you'll be able to make associations. Do certain objects make a regular appearance? Do you have a certain type of dream in times of stress? Can you spot patterns?

If you really want to learn how to control your astral projections, keeping track of your dreams is the best way to do this. Having control over your out of body experiences is not something that you will gain straight away, but if you practise and keep thorough records it will happen.

The language of dreams is one of metaphor and symbol. The symbol may appear to be straightforward, other times it may also be completely confusing. The significance of these dream symbols ranges from person to person, and also within a person as they gain new experiences. It is these symbols and metaphors that you need to record in order to learn how to control your astral projection.
