If you're someone who likes to get every imaginable feature a device could offer, you just might fall in love with the Garmin StreetPilot 2820. If you are a motorcyclist who hates reading maps, the 2820 might be for you. If you're a back seat driver with a direction-clueless driver, the StreetPilot 2820 should be on your gift list.
The features of the Garmin StreetPilot 2820 are more than I can list in this short review, so I'll just hit a few key-points. One of the most important aspects of a GPS unit is the screen size. While some people prefer tiny, dinky, portable things, the StreetPilot 2820 offers something that really works-a big screen! This touch-screen-enabled GPS unit is capable of handling bright sunlight without a hitch. Because of the touch-screen function, it's also exceedingly easy to use as well.
The Garmin Streetpilot 2820 comes preloaded with streetmaps of North America as well as millions of points of interest (POI's) like restaurants, gas stations, banks, hotels, grocery stores, and area attractions. Because it's preloaded right out of the box, you won't have to hassle with trying to get stuff loaded on there so you can use it the first time. Simply turn it on and head out!
The 2820 offers some other handy features as well, like an integrated MP3 player, XM radio, and audiobook player. If you like listening to things while on the go, the 2820 will help you do it. Load up all your tunes into the MP3 player, get a few interesting books off of audible.com, and subscribe to an XM radio provider and you'll have listening options for the longest of trips. The variety of options works real well if you're mountain traveling and tend to lose signals-simply switch over to the MP3 or audiobook player and keep on listening.
If you are listing to the MP3 or radio, you can set a mode so that if it has directions to tell you it will sound a tone so you can hit the "speak" button. This helps so that you don't have to hear things you don't want to hear.
Some motorcyclists have found that the Garmin StreetPilot 2820 is a better option for riding navigation than the Garmin Quest. Apparently the 2820 is much easier to use while traveling down the highway at high speeds. The easier to use, the safer the device, so I'd suggest highly considering the 2820 if you're a motorbike rider.
The 2820 has a Bluetooth feature that is pretty handy. It has a speaker and microphone that works with Bluetooth compatible phones to allow you to make calls hands-free. If you're using it on your motorcycle, it's pretty neat because you can connect both your Bluetooth compatible phone, and the 2820 to your helmet or headset so you can hold a conversation and receive navigational directions at the same time.
The Garmin StreetPilot 2820 definitely is loaded with features. In fact, you'll be hard up to imagine more in such a small gadget. It's size, features, and functionality are certainly addicting!
