Cheating Our Children

Extra marital affairs are unfortunately all too common these days. You hear about them everywhere; from your favorite Tv show to celebrity gossip magazines to whispers around the water cooler at the office. Do you ever think about the debilitating effects that infidelity has on our society? Can all of this duplicitious behavior be good for our emotional health as a people?

Thou Shalt Not Commit Adultery is one of the Ten Commandments So even in biblical times married men and women were prone to the urge to have extra-marital affairs. Adultery in those days was often punished by public humiliation and in some cases the death penalty.

We like to think of ourselves as evolved since then, but the truth is that many of the same societal problems plague us as they did our ancestors. The repercussions after an infidelity can reach far and wide and effect all the friends and family members involved.

No one is affected moreso than any children involved. Their parents are role models for how they are to act and treat others when they reach adulthood. Seeing one parent treat the other in a duplicitious and deceitful manner does not give them a good foundation about the appropriate ways to treat people.

Divorce is often the outome of an extra marital affair. This damages the moral fibre of our country. If solemn marriage vows are viewed on a \"when it suits me\" basis, this can only negatethe reasons for making a marriage work.

If divorce is not the outcome, the infidelity is often hidden from the kids. This can lead to bitterness, lack of trust and suppressed anger which may often lead to a family unit which provides a poor guide to how an adult should act and gives a dysfunctional view of family life.

When children are surrounded by tales of deceit and lies, even in the office of the President, it provides them with an unstable learning environment. They are the future and them seeing the repercussions of weak relationships has a horrible effect on our society.

The men and women of our nation should be encouraged take their marriage vows seriously; they are there for good historical and societal reasons. This would help our country by producing healthier, happy people and ensure our kids grow up in a more secure environment
